OUR TRAINING PROGRAMME

RWE IT UK is responsible for the supply and maintenance of information systems to the RWE business. Our work includes the development, installation and maintenance of hardware, software, phone systems (fixed and mobile), servers, networks, cabling, over 700 applications and supporting 11,000 staff across the organisation.

This year we are offering Advanced Apprenticeships in Swindon and Higher Apprenticeships in Leeds to people with a committed interest in Information Systems including, for the Higher Apprenticeships, the motivation to complete a foundation level degree.

Through the programme, Advanced apprentices will focus on learning in-depth Microsoft C#.Net programming skills whereas Higher apprentices will gain experience and skills across a wide range of IT business areas.

The apprenticeship will start in September/October 2010. Advanced apprenticeships will last for 2 years and Higher apprenticeships will take up to 3 years to complete. On completion of the scheme, Advanced apprentices will move into a Software Development role whereas the Higher apprentices will move into one of many possible roles within our IT support services.

The scheme is open to anyone who is eligible to work in the United Kingdom. Entry onto the scheme will require a minimum of 2 good A level grades, GCSEs in a range of subjects including Maths and English and a real interest in IT.

Advanced apprentices will have a starting salary of £14,000, and Higher apprentices £15,500 per year. There are pay reviews every 6 months depending on satisfactory performance. Holiday entitlement will be 25 days per year, and employees will be entitled to join the pension scheme. Higher apprentices will also be offered a 'golden hello' of £1000.

During the programme apprentices will be expected to attend a local college on either day or block release and achieve:

  • IT Professional NVQ level 3
  • Technical Certificate
  • Key Skills level 3
  • Foundation Level Degree in Computing (Higher Apprentices only)

Apprentices will also be expected to attend a variety of other training courses to support their apprenticeship programme.
